The information revolution has resulted
in wide ranging changes to service industries across the world.
The Government has launched initiatives to make the United Kingdom
a world leader in e-commerce and make its services available to
all. The e-Government strategy underpins the implementation of the
Modernising Government White paper. It has 4 principles:
- building services around citizens choices
- making Government and its services more accessible
- social inclusion
- using information better.
The Government intends that all services
which can be electronically delivered should be and that they should
be accessible over the Internet, through mobile phones, digital
TV and Call Centres.
A target of 2005 has been set by which all citizens should have
access to the Internet, either in their own homes or through community
access points.
